MANICure Monday | #AutismSPeaks Autism Awareness Nail Art

April is national autism Awareness month. Autism is a broad term for a spectrum of disorders referred to as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). They are a group of neurobiological disorders that affect an individual’s ability to interact, communicate, relate, play, imagine, and learn.

The term SPECTRUM is an important part of understanding autism because of the wide range of behaviors and types of problems. There can be significant variations from one individual to another. There is a range of skills and challenges in individuals on the autism spectrum. Children with ASD may have a striking lack of interest, inability to interact with other people or have limited ability to communicate. On the other end of the spectrum are individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome and they may have difficulty with social interactions and exhibit a restricted range of interests and/or repetitive behaviors.

The puzzle piece was used because autism is a very complex and a puzzle to try to fully understand. Many times there are also a lot of people working together with those with ASD. These could range from parents, teacher, behavior therapist, psychologists, dietitians and more! And each of these people together help to try and put the “puzzle” pieces together.

Over the last few years, the number of family members and friends with children diagnosed with ASD has grown tremendously. Today I wanted to bring awareness and show support.

For the puzzle piece I used yellow, green, red and navy blue.  The rest of the nails I used Rush 60 second high-speed nail lacquer in Earth and for the dots I used one coat of Maybellines Color Show in Blue Marks the Spot.

Thank you! Next time I’ll try to take my time more so my lines are cleaner. I thought of all these ways to do it after it was already done but I didn’t feel like starting over…LOL!
